Polytetrahydrofuran is mainly used as the soft segment of segmented polyurethane or segmented polyether polyester. The segmented polyurethane rubber made from polytetrahydrofuran with an average molecular weight of 1000 can be used as tires, transmission belts, gaskets, etc.; it can also be used for coatings, artificial leather, films, etc. The segmented polyether polyester produced is a thermoplastic elastomer. Polytetrahydrofuran with an average molecular weight of 2000 can be used to make polyurethane elastic fibers.

It should be stored in a completely closed tank or other container sealed with dry nitrogen. The storage tank must be equipped with external or internal heating equipment to keep its temperature at about 50°C. Solidified PTMEG can be heated at about 70°C for 24 hours to fully melt it, but it should not be stored at 90°C for a long time.
Storage should be in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from fire, sparks and open flames. Because PTMEG is hygroscopic and easily oxidized, it must be avoided from exposure to moisture and air. To prevent static electricity, the transport container must be grounded. Wear gloves and protective glasses when loading and unloading to avoid contact with eyes and skin; wash with soap and water after completing the work.
