Sodium sulfite is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula Na2SO3. It is a sulfite of sodium and is mainly used as a stabilizer for artificial fibers, fabric bleach, photographic developer, dyeing and bleaching deoxidizer, spice and dye reducing agent, and lignin remover for papermaking.

 In the field of water treatment, sodium sulfite is used as a deoxidizer for boiler water and oilfield water injection, and as a dechlorination agent for municipal or industrial water. In wastewater treatment, it is used to reduce hexavalent chromium salt to low toxicity trivalent chromium salt, and can precipitate and separate silver from wastewater. At present, sulfite is mostly used in small and medium-sized boilers and boilers operating under pressure less than 5.88MPa, usually with 2% ~ 10% solution. The dosage of sodium sulfite is usually 0. 076g/L. It is best to add appropriate amount of catalyst, such as Cu, Co, Mn, Ni salts, can improve the rate of oxygen removal. When the boiler is out of use, it can be filled with alkaline deoxygenating water which has been deoxygenated and about 200mg/L sodium sulfite to protect the metal from corrosion.  In addition, as a deoxidizer for water injection in oil field, as long as lOmg/L sodium sulfite is added, the corrosion of dissolved oxygen on well pipe can be controlled. In addition, sodium sulfite in chemical production as a raw material for the production of sodium thiosulfate, is also the stabilizer of viscose fiber, beer bottle fungicide, glass mirror and SLATE engraving agent, fabric bleaching components and deoxidizer, photosensitive industrial developer, etc.
