Acetone, also known as dimethyl ketone, or acetone, or wood ketone, is the simplest ketone. Chemical formula CH3COCH3. At room temperature and pressure, it is a colorless flammable liquid with a mint smell.
Physicochemical property
At room temperature, it is a colorless transparent liquid, volatile, flammable, and fragrant. It is miscible with water, methanol, ethanol, ether, chloroform and pyridine, can dissolve oil, fat, resin and rubber, and can also dissolve cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate, and is an important volatile organic solvent. The initiator of the London bombing: acetone and concentrated hydrogen peroxide at low temperature synthesis of TATP is a kind of high explosive, friction can explode, does not produce fire, the explosion principle is to instantly produce a lot of gas. Disguised as explosive is regulated by most governments. It's also used to dissolve drugs. Acetone can dissolve acetylene, and one volume of acetone can dissolve many volumes of acetylene, and the amount of dissolution increases with the increase of pressure (see Henry's Law).
Main use
The most common uses are as polish remover for removing nail polish, and paint thinner; At the same time can be used as an organic solvent, used in medicine, paint, plastic, gunpowder, resin, rubber, photographic film and other industries.
In the industry, it is used in the manufacture of bisphenol A, methyl methacrylate (MMA), acetone cyanohydrin, methyl isobutyl ketone and other products, as well as plastics, fibers, drugs and other chemicals. Acetone also exists naturally in nature, and the human body also contains small amounts of acetone. In building materials, it is mainly used as the main raw material of aliphatic water reducer.
