Among these uses it is mainly used in baked goods. It is used as a curing agent in canned potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, string beans, and peppers. Calcium sulfate is also used as an ingredient in confectionery, ice cream, and other frozen desserts. Calcium sulfate is also used in beer brewing and is added to the malting process to increase the amount of calcium ions in the water.
